Five Foods To Energize Your Workouts

Whenever I work out, I feel more energized. There were times when I was tired, rundown, and depleted of energy, but I kept pushing, only to strain my muscles and stress myself out. This behavior defeats the benefits of exercise and can lead to injuries. Getting enough rest and eating well to boost my energy levels became essential to me. So I asked myself questions and tried to see what foods worked for me to help maintain the energy levels required for a productive workout exercise class or dance class.

Forget about sugar and candy for your energy boosts, especially if you want to exercise to improve your health. Sugar offers you a burst of brief energy then you drop to your pre-sugar energy level. Since sugar never worked for me, I looked for other foods that gave me what I needed for a successful workout.

As a professional dancer, teacher, choreographer, and director, I frequently questioned myself about meals that would provide me with high energy levels when dancing and performing. Here are some of these foods:

Healthy food concept. Salad, fruits, vegetables, nuts and cereal.
  1. Whole-grain sources: whole-grain cereals like brown rice, oatmeal, oat bran, and others burn off slower and contain B vitamins, which boost your energy and metabolism.
  2. Strawberries contain fiber and help the body absorb carbohydrates you eat more slowly.
  3. Bananas are high in fiber, B vitamins, and potassium to energize the muscles and brain. So much of a great workout has to do with an alert mind. Eating a banana in the car on my way to dance class is ideal. A satisfying breakfast for me is coconut yogurt, bananas, and strawberries. Other opinions can include adding protein-rich almonds and oats.
  4. Adding dark leafy vegetables to salad or green drinks always gives me the nutritional spark and energy I need for the day. They cleanse and detoxify me to feel the restoration before or after my workout. These superfoods have a lot of fiber, amino acids, and nutrients that you can always use for soups, salads, and drinks.
  5. Nut butter is a good snack and gives you fiber for that slump in the afternoon. They are good to eat alone or with a banana. Other options include putting them in a smoothie for a delicious snack or midday pick-me-up.
Leafy vegetables and salads are great choices.

Fueling your body with the right foods is essential to reaching optimum health. Hydration is vital for success in any of our daily activities. Water keeps our cells, blood, and bodily fluids clean. It flushes out the body and aids in the body’s detoxification. Sipping on water throughout the day for the required hydration is vital to your health.

Hydration with lemon, lime or other fruits aid the detoxification process.
